Foreign investments are guaranteed by the Constitution of Sri Lanka and through bilateral agreements with over 25 countries.

Imports of all raw materials, gold, silver, platinum, rough gemstones & diamonds are free of import duty. Exports of cut & polished gemstones and jewellery is free of taxes. Further the profit made from exports of gems & jewellery is also completely income tax free.

Intellectual properties – copyrights, industrial designs, patents, trade marks service marks and trade names, - are protected under the Code of intellectual Property Act of 1979. Companies are also protected against unfair competition.

Sri Lanka is an active member of international Coloured Gemstone Association (ICA).

ATA Carnet system is in operation in Sri Lanka and the issuing authority is international Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka also enjoys special concession by way of GSP concession which enables exports of gem & jewellery from Sri Lanka to a number of countries at a zero rate of duty.

Sri Lanka’s labour regulations are deemed fair by investors, while looking after the rights of the workers.

Most factories are situated close to the Colombo International Airport, facilitating fast import and export of products. The Port of Colombo is rated one of the most efficient and economical in Asia.
