Coconut and Coconut Products
(1) Desiccated Coconut

Desiccated coconut, made out of coconut kernel, is used in the confectionery industry. There are 62 mills in Sri Lanka and the total production per annum is about 75,000 metric tons. DC is used for confectionery and bakery industry.

All mills have quality control laboratories.

Product description
- Colour - Natural white
- Moisture - Maximum 3% on dry basis
- Fat content Minimum - 65% on dry basis

On the buyers request these mills can also supply low fat DC.
(2) Virgin Coconut Oil

Virgin Coconut oil is manufactured with lower heat to protect Vitamin “E”. It is useful as ingredient in the Cosmetic Industry.

(3) Coir Twine

Made out of bristle fibre (long fibre) or bristle fibre mixed with omatt fibre (short fibre) according to buyer’s specifications. It is used for Agricultural and Horticultural farms as creeper
supporter. Twine is used in winter seasons to protect the trunks of the trees.

(4) Door mats (Hand made / Machine made)

Door mats are made out of coir twine, yarn or coir fibre mixed with jute yarn or some instances with stainless steel wire rods. These wire / coir mats are suitable be used in winter season.

(5) Charcoal Briquettes

This product which is made out of coconut shell, is especially processed for out door and indoor barbeques as well as for domestic heating.

(6) Geotextiles

Geotextiles used for soil stabilization, landscaping and erosion control, are environmental friendly. There are two types of geotextiles i.e. woven and non woven. Raw materials used are coir and rubber.

(7) Rubberised coir Products for Horticulture and Agricultural Industry

Inner layers of flower pots, basket liners, supporting poles for creepers and rubberized coir geotextiles manufactured by spraying coir fibre with latex. Rubberized coir flower pots are used as seed pots as well as indoor decorative pots.

(8) Rubberised Coir Mattresses

Mixture of coir fibre and latex is steam heated pressed and vulcanized to produce mattresses. These mattresses which are made out of natural coir fibre are suitable for health.

(9) Cocopeat Products

In the process of extracting fibre from the coconut husk, the residue which consists mainly of a mixture is known as cocopeat and is used as substitute for peat moss in Europe. It is a good media for growing various plants.

Exported in briquettes, blocks, disks or grow bags.

Total production is around 100,000 MT.

(10) Coconut Husk Chips

Coconut husks are cut into various sizes on buyers requirement to use in horticulture. This is useful for Anthurium, Orchid and other cultivations.

(11) Coconut Cream and Milk

100% pure concentrate of coconut kernel without artificial flavours or preservatives is used in preparation of curries and desserts.

(12) Brushes and Brooms

Two types of brushes are manufactured in Sri Lanka i.e. Tawashi and Deck brushes. These are 100% coconut fibre or mixed with other material or artificial fibre on buyers requirement.

Handles are mainly made out of treated rubber wood.

(13) Activated Carbon

The raw material used for the manufacture of activated carbon is coconut shell charcoal. Coconut shell charcoal, unlike wood and coal, is not chemically activated and is therefore ideally suited for use in food processing and the manufacture of medicines. These can be sued in various industries for purification.
